Ask what existing pages cannot answer

A new discovery route is justified when a distinct buyer task has credible source depth and an owner for maintenance. If an existing category already owns the task but lacks detail, enrich it. If two pages repeat the same task, consider a merge. If evidence is weak, hold and collect it before generating a route.

  1. Identify the exact task the existing route fails to answer.
  2. Test whether the new page can provide independent first-party value.
  3. Choose expand, enrich, merge or hold and write the reason.

Use the owned data as a brake on overreach

The first GSC exports for two owned Markets contain early impressions and a few clicks, including exact profile examples. Those observations justify inspecting page and query intent; they do not justify every category-by-geography permutation. Document the proposed route's unique answer, source set and review cost before approving expansion.

An expansion request in four outcomes

A proposed new capability page has its own buyer task and three source-backed participants: EXPAND may be justified. If the existing category already owns that task but omits key evidence, ENRICH it. If the proposed page repeats the current answer, MERGE rather than multiplying routes. If sources are weak or maintenance is unfunded, HOLD. Record which condition applies and when it can be reviewed. Early impressions are a reason to inspect intent, not a substitute for that editorial gate.

Early impressions do not mandate expansion

An impression-only cluster may need time, better information or a clearer page. It is not automatically a mandate to generate more URLs.
