Connect each signal to the narrow claim it supports

A public product page can establish what a vendor currently says it offers. A Search Console impression can establish reported exposure for an owned page in a defined window. Neither establishes revenue, buyer satisfaction or market share. Put the observation and the maximum defensible inference in neighboring columns.

  1. Record the observation exactly, including date and scope.
  2. Write the narrow supported interpretation separately.
  3. List at least one plausible alternative explanation before recommending action.

Check the blind spots

GSC hides some queries; public pages can be outdated; social attention can be inflated or unrelated to purchasing. The owned Market export is useful for measuring discoverability, not private sales activity. If a decision needs purchasing behavior, design a direct buyer check. This boundary table prevents a research article from quietly upgrading a weak signal into a strong claim.

A claim boundary in four levels

A public page supports a claim about what is stated. A dated Search impression supports a claim about reported exposure. A click supports a claim about a visit to a URL. A lead or sale requires separate attributable commercial data. Moving from one level to the next without evidence is the common error in market intelligence. The owned GSC sample is valuable precisely because it permits a narrow, checkable statement while leaving conversion and market size unclaimed.

A public signal cannot prove sales

Public intelligence narrows uncertainty. It should not be sold as access to a competitor's private performance.
