Inventory the rights and the work
“Owned” should specify who controls the domain, content, source records, code or platform access, correction process and measurement history. It should also specify obligations: source review, moderation, security and continuity. A site can be on an owned domain while critical data or operations remain controlled elsewhere.
- Inventory every asset and its current rights holder.
- Separate transfer rights from day-to-day operating authority.
- Define export, handoff, correction and continuity duties if management changes.

Make transfer questions concrete
Before committing to a Market, ask what export, access or handoff is possible and which third-party licenses constrain reuse. The public 1000&1 Market page describes a maintained asset, but commercial and technical rights must be checked in the actual agreement. A checklist that separates legal control from day-to-day operation avoids treating the word “ownership” as a substitute for terms.
A practical ownership checklist
Ask who can export the entity records with sources, who controls publication and domain settings, who can correct a profile, and what happens if the service relationship ends. Include third-party content licenses and analytics access. A contract may grant ownership of a site while restricting reuse of licensed data; a domain may be controlled by one party while updates depend on another. Record those separately. The checklist turns an abstract promise into questions that can be answered before the Market becomes business-critical.
A transfer scenario makes the checklist concrete: if the operator changes, can a new owner identify each participant's source, correct disputed claims, preserve URLs and continue measurement? If any of those depend on undocumented access or tacit knowledge, the asset is less portable than its marketing description suggests.
Check rights in the actual agreement
This is an analytical checklist, not a claim about a particular customer's contract. Legal rights require the actual signed agreement.
